About TSD's Auditions
Auditioning with TSD is a fun and exciting time for prospective dancers -- it is nothing more than the opportunity for the staff to get a good idea, first hand, of each dancer’s abilities, areas of strength, and areas that need growth. We encourage dancers to audition, regardless of feeling ready, for any level of dance or aspirations, be it as a technical non-competing dancer or a competitive performer. Through the audition process, TSD is able to set a course of instruction best suited for the dancer -- we're able to see what must be accomplished by each dancer to achieve that level.
During our four decades of service to the Alexandria area, not a single person has failed an audition. Why? That's now how we look at the audition process. To us, it's a great way for a one-on-one with one of our instructors and for the student to learn a bit about themselves, too. Parents play a big part in the TSD audition process; their encouragement and assistance in focusing their dancer on the positive challenges that are found within the dance community, all makes for a memorable and special time.
Are Auditions Necessary?
The simple answer is yes, in most cases and for the aforementioned reasons. Though, not in all circumstances are they a must -- that can be determined between the dancer, the parent and the TSD instructor. Auditions help keep our dancers safe and injury-free as part of our balancing together the dancers capabilities, limitations and aspirations.
